September 28, 2007
Please explain any concept or event you’ve learned about in class so far. Explain how it relates to your own life–either the city you grew up in, a family connection, or how it has shaped your views of your life style.

In the first class, I learned about a sign that it has two colors, black and white. In the black side, there is a white dot and in the white side, there is a black dot. This sign presents that everything has two sides, good and bad, but in the both sides it is not completely black and white. It explains that everything has good side and bad side, but it is not exactly good or bad. For example, the true story of “Three Little Pigs”. The story which is told by the wolf and it illustrates one thing has different concepts from different narrators. From this point, we should look from different sides and then make a criticism. This is very interesting thing that I learned from this class. Then I learned the ancients’ life-style and how they started farming in the history. When I studied the culture of the Middle East and India, I found out that the religions affect our lives deeply in the past and nowadays. In Taiwan, there are many people believe in Buddhism and there are a lot of temples for these disciples to worship. Religion can console our souls and release our pressures. There are many elements make up a culture and the culture also reflects these elements. It is very interesting to find out different countries’ cultures and the connection between each culture. I think I will learn more in the future in the world history class.
I have learned about the early civilization in Mesopotamia and India, and some of the methods and the life style have affected the life I have now and the technology I use now. First, the writing system was developed by Sumerian. After it was developed and pass down to the later cities and towns until now, people can write and record for their diary, the important notes, the calculations, and the plan for the future, etc. The writing system has helped to improve our life and make convenience for us to know some major effects, techniques and details without memorizing them deeply. Second, the government of the cities had already been used. This passes to the life we have now, the government of a community is the most important and powerful people, and the government can help to straighten the empire and restrict them to become successful in living, protecting themselves, etc. It is also an extreme importance in early civilization. The other is the Hammurabi code, it is the first written code we knew, and it made the people after that kept recording down their law to protect the human or to be peaceful and be fair. The written down code can make the people who have to follow it notice clearly what they can do, and what they cannot do.
