This is a commercial from Taiwan, about the gold jewelry. They are a couple, who are both trying to find(buy)the other a gift. They are waiting for the other, and when they meet, they take out the present that has been prepared for the other. And, they find out that they have bought the same style of gold that suppose to be the pairs for a couple.
What is really interesting is that this sort of commercial is a constant within all cultures. There are many of these on television in the United States, each depicting a similar message.
After watching both commercials, I think it is funny how each advertises a completely different thing, but utilize romance and comedy commonly. Also, I find it intriguing that the film style is similar as well as the attractiveness of the characters. Is it common to use celebrities or icons in commercials like in the United States?
I find it interesting that this commercial avoids the common, less-than-blatant claim in, for example, Kay Jewelers commercials, which basically says “She will love you more if you buy OUR jewelery.” Similarly, there are the other commercials in America where you see several people saying “Ooh, he went to Jared!” Again, trying to advertise a reputation that you try to give to your own store is far less creative than this commercial here!
This also uses, although lightly, the method of drawing a viewer to the commercial out of curiosity. I often find myself strangely drawn to obscure commercials which don’t clearly tell the viewer about their product from the beginning, but draw him or her in with the curiosity they feel about what the commercial is for.
